Metering Orifices

Metering Orifices

  • Orifice flow meters measure the through-flow of a medium by reducing the cross-sectional area of the pipe and thereby increasing its flow speed.
  • By increasing flow speed, the pressure in the narrowest section of the pipe is reduced.
  • The differential pressure (Δp) thus developed is then used as a gauge of the through-flow.
Standard Orifice

The outer ring of a standard orifice allows the attachment of an extraction bracket directly onto the orifice plate. Individual borings then enable measurement of the pressure impulses.

Standard Nozzle

Individual borings or an annular gap on either side of the standard nozzle provide for pressure tapping into the annuli via extraction brackets. Standard nozzles offer considerable price advantages relative to Venturi nozzles, but also greater loss of head.

Measuring Section

Measuring sections consist of a standardised and uninterupted inflow and outflow zone as well as either a standard orifice or an annulus orifice. Measuring sections are used as flow meters mainly for piping of smaller nominal diameter. A high degree of surface precision is required of the pipe at its intake and outflow if measuring sections are to be used.
